Seso Marentes

Born as a native Chicano artist from Des Moines, Iowa, Seso Marentes uses his craft to integrate his culture and weave it into the fabric of the state he claims as his true and only home. Through his passion, he drives awareness, particularly among the youth,inspiring them to recognize Iowa as a place of belonging and to follow their hearts no matter the obstacles.
With a family history spanning over a century in Iowa, Marentes bridges two distinct worlds, fourth generation heritage on his mother’s side and first generation roots through his father, an immigrant from Juarez, Mexico. As he continues researching his lineage, his art reflects a deep seated yearned connection to a land his ancestors called home long before him.
